States United to Prevent Gun Violence Hoaxes “Customers”

Anti-firearm lobbyist group States United to Prevent Gun Violence recently set up a fake firearm retail shop in New York City for purposes of invoking scare tactics upon customers who sought to purchase firearms. When the customers would inquire about specific firearms, or when they would simply engage the “store clerk” in conversation, the clerk would begin to lecture the customer about particular school shootings or fatal accidents that occurred with the same make/model of the firearm. The firearms themselves also had tags which described instances where the firearm was misused to harm others. Opponents have criticized the scheme as an attempt to manipulate, lie to, and leave defenseless law-abiding citizens. A video of the experiment can be found here.

The Second Amendment Enforcement Act Introduced by Senator Rubio

Florida Senator Marco Rubio (R) introduced the Second Amendment Enforcement Act this week, a bill “to restore Second Amendment rights in the District of Columbia.” If enacted, the bill would limit the District’s authority to regulate firearms by expanding concealed carry laws and eliminating the District’s new firearm registry. In support of the new bill, Senator Rubio stated that “[f]or years, the District of Columbia has infringed on its residents’ Second Amendment rights and rendered them vulnerable to criminals who could care less what the gun laws are.” A copy of the bill can be found here.

BATFE Raids Home of Texas Judge

Tim Wright, a sitting judge in Williamson County, Texas, had his home searched pursuant to a search warrant yesterday. BATFE agents executed the warrant, which was issued to investigate potential violations of federal firearm regulations. Agents were seen leaving the home with dozens of black carrying cases and other items, but the BATFE has yet to comment on its findings. We will continue to monitor this ongoing situation out of Texas.
