January 21, 2014: At last week’s SHOT Show, John and Christopher Renzulli gave a presentation concerning the best corporate forms for FFLs. The presentation provided an overview of the various corporate forms available to FFLs and addressed the pros and cons of each form in the context of the firearms industry in order to permit the presentation’s attendees to make an informed decision about what form would best protect their business. NSSF/SAAMI have filed a lawsuit seeking declaratory and injunctive relief against California’s microstamping law which took effect in May 2013. According to the lawsuit, scientific literature now suggests that the technology required to comply with the law is not available. A copy of the complaint is available here. A Federal judge recently struck down Chicago’s long time ban on firearms sales within city limits finding that the ban violated the 2nd Amendment. The city elected not to appeal the decision, but requested a six month delay in the implementation of the ruling to allow the city to “enact reasonable and comprehensive regulations” which was granted by the court.
