The National Shooting Sports Foundation (“NSSF”) and American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (“AFSP”) recently announced at the SHOT Show in Las Vegas a partnership to educate the public and industry members about suicide prevention as it relates to firearms. The partnership aims to educate firearm owners about suicide, its warning signs, risk factors and the importance of securely storing firearms. The materials published by the partnership will also serve as an invaluable resource for owners of shooting ranges and firearm retailers to train their own employees on the warning signs of suicide. Other organizations such as the New Hampshire Firearm Safety Coalition have also made materials available for ranges and retailers on suicide prevention. At Renzulli Law Firm, we have seen an increase in suicide-related claims brought against shooting ranges and retailers. We are experienced in and available to assist shooting ranges and retailers in reviewing and developing standard operating procedures that may protect against such claims.
