The laws governing the import and export of firearms are complex and regularly changing. Numerous federal agencies, including the Department of State, the Department of Justice, the Department of Homeland Security, and the Department of Commerce have jurisdiction regarding the import and export of firearms.
Renzulli Law Firm, LLP regularly counsels its firearms industry clients regarding the requirements to legally import and export firearms. In order to remain up to date regarding the regularly changing laws, Renzulli Law Firm, LLP attended the 15th Annual Firearms Import/Export Conference sponsored by the National Shooting Sports Foundation and the FAIR Trade Group. This Conference included informative presentations by numerous federal officials, including representatives from the Department of State Directorate of Defense Trade Controls, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Homeland Security Investigations, and Customs and Border Protection.
The conference also featured a presentation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation regarding the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (“FCPA”). The FCPA is a federal criminal statute that essentially bars the payment of bribes to foreign officials, but is complex in its application. Any member of the firearms industry involved in the import or export of firearms needs to be familiar with the FCPA. Renzulli Law Firm, LLP provides counseling regarding the FCPA, including the development of written protocols to prevent violations.
If you have any questions regarding the laws concerning the import or export of firearms, or the FCPA, please contact Renzulli Law Firm, LLP.
