The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) has submitted to the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) a notice of proposed regulation relating to “bump stock” devices.  The DOJ has identified the following objectives and goals in filing the notice:

  • Clarify that the definition of “machinegun” in the National Firearms Act (NFA) and Gun Control Act (GCA) includes bump stock type devices; and
  • Establish that Federal law prohibits the possession, sale, or manufacture of bump stock devices pursuant to the NFA and the GCA.

If approved by the OMB, the DOJ has stated they will seek to publish the notice of a proposed regulation banning bump stock devices “as expeditiously as possible.” As soon as the notice is published, we will provide you with a run down of what you need to know.
